Roads designed for the vehicle that uses them
A haul road is a piece of engineering, not a track that gets wider with use. Geometry is set by the largest vehicle in the fleet: running width sized so two trucks pass with real clearance, gradients held to what a loaded truck can climb and descend under control, curve radii and superelevation matched to the intended speed, and sight distance long enough to stop in. Safety berms, signage and designated light-vehicle routes belong in the design rather than being added after an incident. Get the geometry right and cycle time, tyre life and fuel burn all improve together.
Pavement and drainage decide how long it lasts
Most haul road failures are water failures. We build in layers — prepared subgrade, a base sized for the wheel loading, and a wearing course chosen from material available near the site that will not turn to slurry in the wet season — and every surface is shaped to shed water. Crossfall, table drains, turnouts and correctly sized culverts carry water off the road and away from the toe. Without that, traffic pumps the wearing course out from beneath itself and the road fails at precisely the time of year you can least afford to lose it.
Access, portals and ongoing maintenance
The same discipline applies to pit ramps, box cuts, portal pads and the platforms that drilling and processing equipment stand on: set out to survey, built to a specification, handed over with levels recorded. Dust suppression is planned alongside water supply, since watering roads is one of the largest routine water demands on a site and interacts directly with mine water management. Maintenance is scheduled rather than reactive — grading cycles, drain clearing and material top-up planned around your production — so the road holds the standard it was handed over at instead of degrading until it stops a truck.
